U.S. stocks rallied Monday as falling oil eased inflation pressure and Meta’s Muse app brought buyers back to AI. The Nasdaq closed at a record, with AMD and Intel among the chipmakers leading the move. Meta saw its best day since 2025.
Crude fell 4.3%, leaving energy behind, President Trump said there was work to do to find peace in the Middle East. No duh. The international politics world is ramping up for a Thursday night meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and a host of AI leaders like Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, etc. They all hope to talk AI and trade.
Negotiator Li Chenggang met with Treasury Sec Scott Bessent at JPMorgan Chase headquarters in NYC Sunday, and reportedly things went well. Bessent told CNBC it’s not the government's responsibility to tell AI companies to stop poking their robots to hack things, much like Marc Zuckerberg wrote a week ago in response to AI regulation ideas- keeping models from acting out is what Facebook does every day.
AMD finished above $1T in market value for the first time. A settlement also cleared a major legal hurdle for Paramount’s Warner Bros. takeover, though Warner rose and Paramount closed lower.
On Stocktwits, AMD’s milestone drew bullish chatter. Meta’s latest pulse was bearish despite its jump, and Paramount traders debated what the merger settlement would cost.

AFTER THE BELL
Meta’s Muse Sets Off a Chip Rally

Apple App Store, today
Meta’s personal AI agent Muse reached the top of Apple’s U.S. App Store on Monday, nearly two weeks after its Sept. 8 launch. Wells Fargo also raised its Meta price target to $796, AI competitor labs burning cash freaked out, and investors carried the enthusiasm into chipmakers that could supply the CPUs needed to run AI agents.
The RIP: $META ( ▲ 11.43% ) closed +11.4%. $AMD gained +10%, and $INTC rose +12.1%.
If you have not used the app yet, I can recommend it. The experience feels like Meta had this in the pipeline ever since the open source agent thing OpenClaw blew up over the winter. In a very metaverse, NFT type of way, everyone on twitter was screaming about agents for a while, and it looks like Meta was working its way toward this release all the while. OpenAI and Anthropic were competing to see who could scare investors with data breaches, while arguably the largest player in app use in the world was building a better UI competitor.
Downloads give Meta an early sign of interest in Muse, but the app has yet to prove how much people will pay to use it. Amazon has blocked the agent from its store, according to Stocktwits, giving Meta a more immediate problem than Wednesday’s Meta Connect presentation can solve.

Paramount Clears a Warner Bros. Merger Hurdle
Paramount Skydance settled the states’ antitrust lawsuit against its proposed Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition on Monday. The agreement removes a major legal obstacle, though it still needs court approval, and puts enforceable film production and cable pricing commitments on the combined company.
The RIP: $WBD closed +10.8%, while $PSKY fell -2.9% after reversing an early gain. The proposed acquisition is valued at roughly $110B including debt.
Under the settlement announced by California’s attorney general, Paramount must release 30 films annually for the first two years and 32 in each of the next three. Falling short would trigger a $30M penalty per missed film and a requirement to divest Miramax. Warner shareholders got a clearer path to closing; Paramount shareholders got the bill for some of that certainty.

AMD Joins the $1 Trillion Club

Advanced Micro Devices, the chipmaker, closed above $1T in market value for the first time Monday as investors bought into the idea that popular AI agents will require more server CPUs. Meta’s Muse app helped revive that trade across the chip group.
The RIP: $AMD ( ▲ 9.95% ) finished +10% at $615.52. Bloomberg reported that Meta is AMD’s second-largest customer, accounting for about 5.5% of revenue.
That customer relationship gives AMD a clearer connection to Meta’s AI spending than many stocks caught in Monday’s rally. Muse’s app-store rank is an early sign of consumer interest, though it does not establish how many additional chips Meta will buy.

“$AMD my measly 40 shares at $87 are now $24,000 ✅”
