Smuckers Said PB&J is Out This Year 🥜
Peanut butter and coffee maker JM Smucker fell Tuesday as $SJM ( ▲ 1.55% ) reported its Q4 ‘24 earnings before the bell opened. The firm beat EPS estimates and missed revenue expectations, but the market reacted to the firm’s dismal outlook.
The Jelly giant gave a 2025 outlook that fell short, expecting per-share profit in the $8.50-$9.50 range for their fiscal year. Wall Street wanted to see at least $10.25.

Stoktwits user sentiment soared to ‘extremely bullish’ after the news'.
It wasn’t the only post-earnings stock to fall. $GME ( ▼ 5.31% ) fell about 5% after its post-market report, missing estimates and reporting a 17% drop in YoY revenue.
$GTLB ( ▼ 10.6% ) fell like a rock after its post-market report, down 13% after its Q1 fiscal year revenue beat estimates, up 26% YoY at $214.5M. The firm raised its coming year outlook to a number below the midpoint of Wall Street expectations.

Despite the fall, $GTLB Stocktwits sentiment climbed to nearly maxing out.

…EXCEPT DEATH AND TESLAS
Musk Must Be Happy Trump Found A New Fight
Tesla climbed 5% on Tuesday, near the top of the S&P 500, after it became clear the beef between Chief Musk and President Trump had simmered. Trump said he would not get rid of his ex’s car his gifted red Tesla, and has spent the past couple of days targeting a new frenemy- California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Monday night, LA will greet 700 arriving National Guard members sent in to protect ‘federal assets,’ after weekend protests turned fiery in the late-night hours. Protestors marched mostly peacefully as planned during the day, but when night fell, smaller groups lit fires, clashed with police, and helped ruin Waymo’s downtown self-driving car service Sunday afternoon.

Trump defended his decision to deploy Marines and National Guard troops to Los Angeles amid escalating anti-ICE protests, while California Governor Gavin Newsom filed an emergency motion to block the deployment. Trump even said he supported the call to arrest Newsom, though he admitted Newsom would enjoy the mugshot for the media attention. 📸
Normally, military units like the Marines don’t deploy stateside. U.S. law generally bars active duty military from deployment against civilians— that’s part of the National Guard’s job. Trump signed a Sunday Executive Order directing US Northern Command to assume control of the National Guard, and send 2,000 soldiers to CA. He also gave the Pentagon the executive order to send in the Marines. 🪖
Watch the Hands This Time
It is scary to watch a political demonstration turn violent. The move comes after ICE arrests rose under the first five months of the current administration, though actual deportations have decreased since Sleepy Joe’s reign.
Bloomberg reported that LA fires are a welcome distraction from the Musk/administration breakup, and the Medicaid cutting, deficit-increasing bill hammering into the Senate on a July 4th deadline. But hey, what do you think? 🧑🚒
In other news, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has emerged as a leading contender to succeed Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve Chair, with President Trump expected to announce his decision soon, according to Bloomberg.
Powell has years left in his Trump-appointed term, but rumors floated over the winter that Trump wants to make a clear successor to speed up any foot-dragging of rate decisions by the FOMC.
