Stocks fell Thursday as crude jumped 6.8% above $100 and producer prices rose 5.4% from a year ago, keeping another rate hike in play. Technology led nine sectors lower, with $INTC and $MU taking the worst of the chip selloff.
Most of Twitter was screaming over the president's pledge to pay out big bucks if his party wins the midterm elections. Nothing fishy at all about that, not even going to comment. Not to mention his party has had full power of the House and presidency for two years now, and I haven’t seen a check yet. 🐠
The real market was watching insane producer price inflation come in and waiting for the other shoe Friday morning: CPI numbers.
Housing offered little relief as existing-home sales fell to a 3.98M annual pace. After hours, $ORCL jumped on 121% infrastructure-cloud growth and a $664B backlog, but $ADBE fell after its billion-user milestone and small earnings beat.
Stocktwits attention clustered around $ORCL, $ADBE, $DJT, $AAPL, and $UBER. Oracle traders got their post-earnings pop, Apple holders kept arguing over a $1,999 folding phone, and Uber’s CEO put $10M behind his own stock.

AFTER THE BELL
Oracle’s AI Cloud Hits the Gas ☁️

Oracle, the enterprise software and cloud infrastructure provider, reported fiscal first-quarter results after Thursday’s close. AI demand more than doubled infrastructure sales, sending shares higher after a rough regular session.
The RIP: $ORCL ( ▼ 5.38% ) fell 5.4% before the report, then jumped 6.9% after hours. Adjusted EPS reached $1.92 versus $1.74 expected, while revenue climbed 30% to $19.34B, topping the $19.14B estimate.
Cloud revenue jumped 62% to $11.61B, led by 121% growth in infrastructure revenue. The rest of Oracle grew just 3%, and software revenue fell 3% as customers continued moving from on-premises products to the cloud.
Oracle booked more than $30B of new AI cloud contracts, lifting its remaining performance obligations to $664B. It reaffirmed at least $90B in annual revenue and raised adjusted EPS guidance to at least $8.10, but kept its $90B-$95B capital-spending plan after selling $20B of stock. That growth is not cheap.

Adobe Finds a Billion Users 🎨
Adobe, the software company behind Photoshop and Acrobat, beat fiscal third-quarter estimates Thursday and said its products reached 1 billion monthly active users. Shares fell again after hours as investors looked past the beat to its AI strategy and Q4 outlook.
The RIP: $ADBE dropped 2.4% during the session and another 2.4% after hours. Adjusted EPS reached $6.13 versus $6.09 expected, while revenue rose 13% to $6.76B, topping the $6.70B estimate.
AI-first annual recurring revenue grew more than 150%, while subscription revenue climbed to $6.58B from $5.79B. Adobe raised its full-year outlook to $26.576B-$26.626B in revenue and adjusted EPS of $24.45-$24.50.
The Q4 forecast was less exciting. Adobe expects $6.8B-$6.85B in revenue, bracketing Wall Street’s $6.84B estimate, and acknowledged that its freemium AI push could weigh on near-term recurring-revenue growth. One billion users is a milestone. Turning the free crowd into paying customers is the part shareholders need.
MACRO NEWS
Checks Meet the Oil Shock 💸
President Trump used the Republican midterm convention in Dallas to promise $5,000 payments to American adults if Republicans retain Congress. The pledge arrived as oil, producer prices, and mortgage rates squeezed the affordability pitch from three directions. It is a frankly a wild claim.
“It will be called the Trump dividend. Now all we have to do is win,” President Trump said Wednesday.
The RIP: The proposed checks would cost more than $1.3T, on top of a deficit that broke $40T. In macro, August PPI rose 0.4% monthly and 5.4% annually, while core prices climbed 0.2%. Existing-home sales fell 2% to a 3.98M annual rate. Brent reached $105.72, and WTI hit $100.39.

Bloomberg reported that Congress would need to authorize the payments and noted that earlier DOGE and tariff dividend proposals did not produce checks. The big special guy promised $7k combined. Treasury traders barely reacted to the newest pitch, signaling little expectation that it becomes law. They are more focused on inflation, oil war prices, and next week's higher chance of a rate increase.

Brent remained below its April wartime peak of $126, but futures broke the $100 mark Thursday. August energy prices paid by producers rose 4.2%, led by a 24.1% jump in diesel, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The national average for diesel is reaching toward $6/gallon, and in some states like California are closing in on $10. 👀
Housing offered no relief. National Association of Realtors data showed the median existing-home price rose 1.6% to $429,100, even as sales hit their weakest pace in more than a year. Supply reached its highest level since 2019, but mortgage rates approaching 7% kept buyers waiting.
That mix punished bonds and small caps while lifting the oil trade. $TLT fell, $IWM slipped, and $USO surged. The next look is CPI numbers tomorrow, the final peek at inflation before the FOMC decides where to send rates next week. 3.4% is last month's number; here’s to hoping a quarter more per dollar manufacturers spent on gas somehow did not affect end user prices. /s 🛢️
