Mid-Cap / Micro-Cap Top Movers of the Week 🐶
This week’s Russell momentum board split between biotech squeezes, software rerates, and semis finally remembering gravity.
$SLS ( ▲ 12.89% ) : SELLAS Life Sciences, jumped 6 spots to #12: This week’s top dawg ripped +21% WTD as traders crowded into the REGAL Phase 3 AML readout setup. Sentiment is 90% bullish across 58.5k watchers, which is loud even for biotech. Risk: binary trial tape: one bad REGAL update can erase the squeeze fast.
$ALIT ( ▲ 3.86% ) : Alight, new at #1 from off-list: Alight landed at the top of the board with a +24% WTD move and a stupid +631% YTD gain. The catalyst looks like Q1 beat follow-through and a benefits-platform turnaround rerate, not a clean new headline. Risk: no watcher count in the table, so this may be thinner than the rank suggests.
$BLZE ( ▼ 4.52% ) : Backblaze, jumped 6 spots to #17: Backblaze kept grinding after its Q1 beat, with the cloud-storage name up +7% WTD and +235% YTD. The setup is a smaller software rerate with 2.3k watchers, not a giant community stampede. Risk: the next report has to prove profitability was not a one-quarter accident.
$AEHR ( ▼ 17.13% ) : Aehr Test Systems, fell from #6 to #15: Aehr is the broken-momentum warning. The semiconductor test name is still up +247% YTD, but it got whacked -24% WTD as AI hardware momentum unwound. Risk: July earnings need bookings and margins to justify the AI test-equipment premium.
$VSH ( ▼ 10.33% ) : Vishay Intertechnology, fell from #12 to #23: Vishay stayed on the list, but the move got ugly: -19% WTD after a huge YTD run. This is the old-school chip component leg losing altitude as traders fade parabolic semi charts. Risk: Aug 5 earnings have to defend demand, margins, and the EV/industrial recovery story.
Next week’s swing factor: Wednesday’s FOMC minutes on July 8. If rates stay friendly, software and biotech keep their bid. If yields jump, the crowded small-cap momentum names get another stress test.
Movers but Lonely 🐶
Something new I am featuring this week, as Stocktwits builds out its watchers data as a feature: stocks that are at or near records, but no one really follows them on the platform. Might be worth the glance over!
