The Weekend Rip
Happy Weekend!

The Iran war tightened its grip on every asset class this week as oil swung from $93 to $119 and back, the Fed held rates but admitted inflation progress was slower than hoped, and gold posted its worst week since 1983 down -9% as traders abandoned the haven trade and started pricing a 50% chance of a Fed hike by October. Micron delivered one of the most jaw-dropping earnings beats in memory with a $33.5B Q3 guide against a $24.29B consensus, Jensen Huang put a $1T revenue ceiling on Nvidia's chip backlog through 2027, and Super Micro's co-founder was arrested for smuggling Nvidia servers to China, handing Dell an instant windfall. The Nasdaq finished the week -9.3% from its January high, the Dow -9.2% from its February peak, and the S&P 500 closed below its 200-day moving average for the first time since June. Chuck Norris died at 86.

Let's recap and prep you for the week ahead. 📝

Monday 🚀: Markets ripped higher as oil dropped -5.4% to $93.35 after reports of a U.S.-led coalition to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, finally giving bulls the geopolitical exhale they had been waiting for all week. Jensen Huang took the GTC stage and projected at least $1T in Blackwell and Rubin chip demand through 2027, while Nebius surged on a $27B Meta infrastructure deal built around Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform. The FOMC meets this week and is expected to hold, but last week's stagflation data means any hawkish lean in the statement will hit hard.

Tuesday 🛢️: Stocks eked out a second straight green session even as Brent crude closed at $103.42, its highest since August 2022, with diesel topping $5 a gallon and the Strait of Hormuz still effectively closed. The Director of National Counterterrorism resigned, saying Trump was deceived into starting the war in Iran, while NATO allies continued to rebuff the Hormuz escort coalition. All eyes shift to Wednesday's Fed decision, where a hold is a near-certainty but Powell's dot plot language on inflation could move markets more than the rate call itself, with Lululemon's weak 2026 guidance and Micron's blockbuster earnings report also due after the bell.

Wednesday 💀:The Fed held rates at 3.5% to 3.75% as expected but Jerome Powell told the market inflation progress was slower than hoped, oil hit $109 intraday, and wholesale prices came in twice as hot as expected, sending every major index lower with Bitcoin dropping -4% to $71k and rate cut odds collapsing to December at the earliest. Micron delivered a genuine stunner after the bell, reporting $23.86B in revenue against a $19.7B estimate and guiding Q3 to $33.5B against a $24.29B consensus, giving bulls something to hold onto heading into Thursday. Meanwhile a drone IPO called Swarmer surged +600% on its debut, which may be the most accurate real-time indicator of where we are as a society right now.

Thursday 🛢️: Oil hit $119 intraday before pulling back as Iran floated transit fees on Strait of Hormuz shipping and the White House floated a $200B war spending package it called a "small price to pay," while the major indexes sold off and gold cratered -5.9% to $4,600 as the metals rout extended to a sixth session in seven on collapsing rate-cut hopes. Micron fell -4% despite one of the most jaw-dropping earnings beats in recent memory, with a $33.5B Q3 guide that barely moved a stock already up +348% in a year. FedEx saved the after-hours session, jumping +9% on a clean beat and raised guidance, proving that somebody's supply chain is still working even at $111 oil.

Friday 💀: Markets sold off for a fourth straight week as Trump told reporters he does not want a ceasefire with Iran, gold posted its worst week since 1983 down -9% to $4,500, and traders flipped to pricing a 50% chance the Fed hikes by October after spending last month pricing June cuts. The Nasdaq is now -9.3% from its January high and the Dow -9.2% from its February peak, both within rounding error of correction territory, while the Dallas Fed warned a Hormuz shutdown through June would shave 2.9 percentage points off global GDP in Q2. Super Micro cratered -33% after federal prosecutors charged its co-founder with smuggling Nvidia servers to China, handing Dell an instant market share windfall, while AleAnna surged +87% as missile strikes on Qatar's LNG facilities made Italian domestic gas assets the most valuable acreage nobody had priced in. Chuck Norris died at 86.
