The stock market is a day away from closing out one of its worst quarterly performances in years, with tariffs, recession fears, AI growth, and more weighing on investor and consumer confidence. 😨
Let's recap and prep you for the week ahead. 📝
What Happened?
📈 On Monday, stocks found momentum on reports that Trump’s tariffs would be less severe than anticipated. Investors said goodbye to 23andMe and hello to CoreWeave and eToro, which planned their IPOs.
😭 On Tuesday, consumer confidence plunged to a 12-year low, weighing on market sentiment. GameStop tried to game the system by adopting a Bitcoin treasury strategy, the Stocktwits community made the case against CoreWeave’s IPO, and Gambling.com’s CEO joined “Trends With Friends.”
⚠️ On Wednesday, TD Cowen’s concerns about AI demand dragged the market lower, suggesting that Microsoft has walked away from several new data center projects. Chinese regulators took aim at Nvidia products, fresh tariffs weighed on automobile stocks, and more.
🥇 On Thursday, gold rallied as precious metals were well bid and stocks sold off. Lululemon warned about U.S. consumer health, CoreWeave reduced its offering price and size, and GameStop and several other stocks saw double-digit moves.
🤪 On Friday, stocks closed at their lows, investors doubted CoreWeave’s prospects after a soft IPO, and one fraudster was jailed while another was released. Ben & Emil broke the crazy week down in a brand new “Weekend Rip.”
🤩 This week's Stocktwits Top 25 showed mixed performance vs. the major indexes.
